Most 31 spline axles came in PERFORMANCE FORDS 351 Clevelands / FE 427s / Boss 429s etc Most 28 spline were STANDARD HORSEPOWER CARS WHEN IN DOUBT ...Simply pull an axle and COUNT THE SPLINES ! 28 Spline Axle 31 Spline Axle Note the concave oval area in center of axle flange. Early 28 Spline axles are tapered. Counter sunk holes in center indicate a 31 spline axle. 31 Spline axles are uniform in diameter. What YOKE do you have ? Shown is a 3 1/ 4" Saddle (1310) You will be measuring the saddle width (where the u-joint cups fit into the yoke). The measurement will be either 3 1/4" (1310) or 3 5/8" (1330) or (1350) The 1310 yoke is the most common with the 1350 almost never found in production car driveshafts. 1310 Yoke Width 3 1/4" Cup diameter of U-joints 1 1/16" 1330 Yoke Width 3 5/8" Cup diameter of U-joints can be either 1 1/16" and/or 1 1/8 inch" 1350 Yoke Width 3 5/8" Cup diameter of U-joints 1 3/16" How to determine whether you have a Standard or Daytona pinion support. 3 1/2 " Yoke - Daytona Support 4 1/2 " Yoke - Standard Support The exposed portion of the companion yoke will measure either 3 1/2" or 4 1/2".
