Trader-BOB's MUSIC offers a 1920's - 1930's Nick Lucas Parlor Guitar. This as far as I can research is not a Gibson made Nick Lucas guitar. The details in Gruhn's book are very clear, as far as woods used, bout & body thickness measurements, scale lengths, and fret count. Nick Lucas had some involvement with Oahu Publishing Co. also. Oahu guitars were mostly made by, Kay, with some being made by Oscar Schmidt, according to Vintage Guitars. The headstock shape is more Kay, than Oscar Schmidt. I just made a small detail discovery about the possible ID of the maker of this guitar. The "kerfing" in this guitar is square in profile, see the picture number 15. I just read that is a noticeable trait of Richter Guitars, in Chicago. Not a deciding factor maybe, but I have (1) Oahu guitar, (2) Stella guitars, and (2) older Kay guitars here in my shop, and they all have beveled kerfing. Maybe this is a one/off prototype. Ladder braced front and back. You can see from picture number 5 this is not a water slide decal. This is a rarity; I have not been able to find any info online about this guitar. There is a pencil written figure inside, looks like the number 2. NEEDS THE NECK RESET. The neck / body joint has come loose, and someone attempted to glue it back on. At least it doesn't have GOBS of glue on it. A few wear marks, here and there. The finish is all original, as I got it, I gave it a once over with guitar polish to remove the dust, and fingerprints. No cracks, no seam separations. The first cross brace, on the inside / back below the soundhole has a crack about 1/2" long, from the bass side end going towards the center. I have a picture, the crack is hard to see, but is there. No trussrod or steel reinforcement in the neck. The backside of the neck has a slight "V" shape to it, consistent with the time frame I think this guitar was made. Someone put a nut extender on it, so it could be played with a slide. There is very little wear on the fretwires, and (wood unknown) fretboard. .0195" bow / neck relief on my dial indicator. The tuners are all original, work ok, need cleaning, and a lube job. The floating bridge is original, as is the tailpiece. The bottom endpin is missing. The body looks like solid birch all the way around, grain matches inside to outside, no laminate. This measures; 36-3/4" overall, 25" scale length, 1-3/4" nut width, 13-3/8" lower bout, 8" waist, 9-13/16" upper bout, and 3-1/2" body thickness, the body / sides are parallel all the way around. The chipboard case is the original I got this guitar in. Some dings in the case. PROJECT, NOT UP TO IT? PLEASE do not BID / BUY! Read my feedback, buy with confidence!
