Description: This Nexi Ebike Model 7K Ser. No 1 is an experimental electric bicycle. It was built between 2006 and 2010 by Bill Stephens (1931-2016) at that time he was living in Cherryfield, Maine. Bill graduated from Tufts University and he was a mechanical genius, artist and teacher. He was a longtime friend of Peter Lane Lindenmuth and worked with him at Nexus Machine and Gallery in the Boston area near Andrew Square. Nexus was a combination of machine shop and ad hoc social center, serving a loose-knit community of artists, artisans, and engineers. Most were individuals who either used the machine shop or rented studio space in the building. The bike is designed to be folded. The motor is in the front hub and the battery is on the tube beneath the handle bars. The heavy battery weight makes steering cumbersome in this location and Bill wanted to change this but never got to it. The rear wheel is propelled by peddling and the axle is a two speed 52C kick shift hub with coaster brake. Both tires are solid hard rubber.The battery in the bike remained charged since before Bill’s death and the motor runs fine. The key turns it on and off as well locking, but once locked it is very difficult to unlock. I have not tried to fold the bike. There appears to be a temporary “spike” on the front fork and there may be some other minor issues to be worked out.
