There are five pairs of snare wires with a space between each pair, which allows the wires to pull evenly across the head. This configuration applies less damping to the bottom head, so the drum shell can fully 'speak'. The special high carbon steel snare wire gives a crisp and responsive sound – it has a distinctive, sharp, signature sound. Yamaha uses a unique design for the plate that holds the snare wires. The plate has a slight bend in it which helps the wires adhere better to the snare head when under tension. This allows the snare wires to respond accurately and cleanly to sensitive playing.
