Description: Nemadji Studio Art Pottery Ceramic Blue Orange Swirl Vase Minnesota USA I don't know what the pen markings mean on the base of this piece which is signed and in perfect condition. Nemadji Pottery was created between 1929 and 2002, made with red to buff colored clays found near Moose Lake. Paints were applied by dipping piece into a tub of water with a dash of vinegar upon which small droplets of oil-based paints were floated. Workers would blow on the droplets to create bands of color into which the pot would be lowered and removed from the water using a twisting motion to create the swirl patterns. Nemadji pottery is often referred to as "Indian" pottery but in fact has nothing to do with Native America tribes nor culture. The marking on this piece dates it to the 1980s. Height 6" Circumference widest 16.5" Cross mouth 3" Condition: Excellent pre-owned condition with no known flaws or damage. Vintage and pre-owned items may have slight imperfections or signs of light use. Anything major that compromises the value or integrity of the piece will be listed. Please shop my entire store.
