ITEM DESCRIPTION: Here is an Absolutely Gorgeous & Large Version OOP (Out-of-Print) 1983 Collograph (Halftone) Print titled “The Springhouse” (1944, AKA “The Spring House”) from the world-famous listed artist & illustrator, ‘Newell Convers Wyeth’ (American, 1882-1945), whose printed signature and original date appears lower left in the image area. The original painting was done in 1944 (the year before his death) and as stated in a 1946 issue of Life magazine, (June 17, 1946, Pg. 79, beneath the printed image): “The Springhouse shows a farmer pouring milk into cans which will then be stored in the cool interior of this stone building. It is a painting of Wyeth’s own spring house at Chadds Ford, PA. The picture, now owned by the Wilmington Society of Fine Arts, won first popular prize last year [1945] at the Corcoran Gallery.” Publisher & Print Info: The publisher’s copyright, date, name & location, ‘© 1983 Aaron Ashley Inc., Yonkers, N.Y.’, appears printed lower-left in the outer margin area just beneath the image; The inventory number and title with date, along with the artist’s name and birth & death dates, ‘No. 468, The Springhouse 1944, Newell Convers Wyeth (American, 1882-1945)’, appears printed lower-middle; and the collection info, ‘Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington, Delaware Special Purchase Fund’, appears printed lower-right in the margin area just beneath the image respectively. The printing info, ‘Made in U.S.A.’, appears printed lower-left in the outer margin corner and the print type, ‘A Collograph Print’, appears printed lower-right in the outer margin corner respectively (most likely by Triton Press, NYC who printed many of the Wyeth prints over the years). The Print is on a nice heavier off-white wove paper stock. Size & Condition: The size with wide margins is 26” x 34”, Image size is 22-3/8” x 30”. The Print is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its age—it’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is as ‘Mint’ as any collector could hope to find in its current never-framed condition. No Tears & No Foxing! No real or significant damage at all on this beautiful piece with the tiny & completely negligible exceptions of: Ultra-minimal (only a handful) of very slight & tiny crescent-creases scattered here & there in the image area which aren’t even noticeable at all (except from behind) and aren’t worth mentioning; Other ultra-minimal & very slight small creases scattered here & there in the outer margin areas and small dog-ear bends in the lower-left outer margin corner—all outer margin issues are completely negligible since they can easily be trimmed off or matted & framed out; Negligible/no real toning of the paper stock from age, especially amidst the off-white color of the paper stock itself. This collograph has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade.
