Description: From a Bisbee estate southeast of Tucson is this obviously vintage Navajo split shank silver ring with an egg shaped local lapidary turquoise centerpiece. The I believe 1930's or so crafting aesthetic is clearly unaffected and tribal, demonstrating how much visual charm might be achieved in that time with a few simple tools and a bit of skill. No need for any so called Fred Harvey contrivances, it already has "the look". The stone has acquired a desirable deep green hue, framed here by hand twisted silver wire honestly smoothed down from long wearing. A swedged handmade shank is somewhat quirkily attached to the front plate, yet does its job nicely nicely. A visitor might have acquired something like this from a real pawn case at a remote trading post rest stop in the hinterlands, or off the finger of a local standing outside. Weight is good for the form at about 4.5 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine with a distinct aura of time to all surfaces. Be aware I have avoided every urge to refresh away or "improve" upon any natural toning - you want that done you do it. The turquoise shows nice wear and patination. The shank is intact and strong - I see no evidence of any subsequent size alterations. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Ring size is about 8 or possibly 8 1/4 on my jeweler's ring mandrel (the lower edge of the shank reaches the "8" line on the mandrel, with a small amount of room showing). The front plate is about 5/8 in. vertical. If you prefer historic Southwestern tribal referenced adornment for benefit of a road less travelled, or simply wish a single immediate improvement to the ambiance of any day you choose, this will have great meaning for you. inkfrog terapeak
