He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his M.A. from Temple University. Margolis also took art courses at the Barnes Foundation and in 1938 received a Harvard Fellowship to study the old masters in Italy. During his career Nathan Margolis taught art techniques at various institutions around Philadelphia. Nathan Margolis was a full member of Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Print Club, the American Color Printers Society and the Philadelphia Art Alliance. In 1953 both Nathan Margolis and his wife were targeted by the oppressive, 'Committee on Un-American Activities'. They pleaded the 5th Amendment and apparently avoided further damage from this twentieth century witch hunt. Vogue Says hails from the archives of the Associated American Artists of New York. The Associated American Artists was created in the mid 1930’s and commissioned original graphic art from such great American masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and many others. During the 1950’s and 1960’s it published lithographs and etchings by artists of no less distinction, such as, Jack Levine, Sidney Chafetz, Alexander Dobkin and Marion Greenwood. Its archives housed a major collection of twentieth century American art . This original lithograph may have even been published by the A.A.A. during this period. If so, it would have been printed in an edition ranging from 125 to 250 signed impressions."
