Description: Nanjing Royal Brocade Pencil/Pen holder. Condition is Pre-owned but like new Yun (meaning clouds) Brocade, a specially-woven fabric for the imperial use, was created in the Yuan dynasty (1206AD-1368AD). It is often compared to the beautiful clouds, so it has the name of "Yun Brocade". Since the 13th century, every Emperor of different dynasties ordered that the Yun Brocade be the tribute. Yun Brocade is made of selected materials, with refined technique and in brilliant designs by traditional jacquard looms which are 5.6M long, 1.4M wide, and 4M high. Two artisans manipulate the loom, one fixing the outline of the raised patterns, the other shutting color threads to make perfect brocades. The output per day is 5-6 centimeters only. The craftsmanship is regarded at the peak of ancient fabric techniques. Modern machines can not substitute for it so far, it is of remarkable quality. Pencil holder made from wood.
