Description: N154----c1913 Oil City PA glass negative - tavern - billboards - electric poles Very interesting scene on this original glass negative, from the Franklin-Oil City PA area, Venango County, c. 1913. Clearly the photographers focus was on the line of utility poles. Looks like they have just been installed. I purchased many glass negatives pertaining to the Franklin-Oil City area, but can't positively ID this location. Didn't think much of this image, until I noticed a door that is marked "3 shots for 5" in three different areas of the front door. Obviously, this is the entrance to an old tavern. I was also able to get a good scan of a nearby building, as well as a couple of billboards in the background. One of the billboards reads "April 15, and ???? Mountains." I can confirm the other billboard was for a play at the Opera House entitled "The Final Settlement." I was able to find an ad in the Oil City Derrick in February of 1913. (see image). As far as the stone building on the right, I have no idea. I thought it might be a depot or similar. I see there is a bicycle parked near the door. My scanned image has been cropped from the original negative for display. The negative is 8 x 10 and in excellent condition. There are a few very minor chemical spots but does not really detract from the main subject. Original images are more in focus than I am able to present in this listing.
