Description: The Grand Antique Mall, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, presents an Antique Mount Washington Glass Works Burmese uranium 3-tone, salmon pink, hand painted, encased glass vase. Shiny natural finish. Circa: 1882. The Burmese line of uranium glass was discovered in 1881 by Frederick Shirley, for which he received a patent in 1885. The formula to produce Burmese Glass contained uranium oxide, responsible for producing a soft yellow color, and tincture of gold, that created salmon. Under black light, the pair glow, and one can readily see the fluctuation from deep salmon to lemon yellow, as well as deep salmon colors of the flowers. Under normal lighting, each tear drop vase begins in deep salmon at the lip, the color continuing down the slender neck, shading into medium salmon upon reaching the rounded body, then increasingly growing lighter and finally, ending in a pale, almost cream shade of salmon. Each vase features hand painted, raised, white petaled flowers among gold leaves, stems, vines and swirls. The 1/4” high pedestal base is painted gold. The design on the pair of vases is complimentary. NOTES: All photos were taken under normal room lighting with the exception of photo #20, taken in direct sunlight; photo #1, taken in black light with camera flash; and all photos of glowing vases were taken in black light. DIMENSIONS: 7.5”H x 3.5”W. WT=1.05 lbs. CONDITION: The pair are in excellent condition. No missing pieces, cracks, chips, hairlines, scratches, or repairs. Some expected wear to gold. One vase has 2 tiny factory bubbles (view photos #9 & #20).
