Description: FREDERIC MARCH AS MR. HYDE By RICK MELTON ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING ON HEAVYWEIGHT OIL PAPER FROM 2015. CLASSIC HORROR TRIBUTE ART FEATURED ON DARK SIDE MAGAZINE ISSUE #253 (APRIL 2024) Here is a dazzling original painting depicting Academy Award winning American actor Fredric March as Mister Hyde (from the 1931 Rouben Mamoulian version of the classic film, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) rendered in oils on heavyweight oil paper by renowned English illustrator, fantasy / smut artist and all-round great guy, Rick Melton. According to Rick’s Deviant Art bio: After 40 years spent serving up sub-standard slop in his restaurant and take away business, Rick decided to do all his customers a big favour and sell up to someone who could cook. At a loose end for something to do, he decided to become a commercial artist but after spending 400 pounds purchasing a Corel printer, he sadly found out he was too stupid to use it. Despite this setback, Rick was determined to foist his tacky etchings on the world and was soon dusting off his 1970’s “Let’s Do It With Rolf” paint box and turning out dozens of DVD covers for Arrow Video, none of which anyone liked. Rick stuck at it though, and eventually hit the big time when he was hired to create the covers for Britain’s best-selling horror magazine, The Dark Side. Since then, he has painted hundreds of book, magazine and DVD covers along with film posters and private commissions which not only proves that traditional illustration is still alive and kicking, but that all the other traditional illustrators are dead. This colorful 11.75 inch x 16.5 inch original artwork is painted on heavyweight oil paper and is in excellent, unframed condition. It has been taped on the reverse to a burgundy-colored 16" x 20" mat with acid-free conservation tape (which can easily be removed) making it truly "frame ready". This incredible oil painting features the sadistic, homicidal maniac Mr. Hyde (as portrayed by Fredric March in his Oscar winning role) while he roams the foggy streets of Victorian London. Rick Melton has a superior knack for adding detailed atmospheric backgrounds to his artworks. The artist has signed this painting in the lower left corner. It has been kept in storage since I acquired it more than eight years ago. The mat has kept the painting in pristine untouched condition while in storage. It will be shipped securely in a flat package. This original work of art was initially commissioned by me as part of a series of Classic Horror film art that Rick graciously took on back in 2015. To the best of my knowledge, it is featured on the cover of Dark Side Magazine Issue #253 and has been published at least one other time in Rick's sold-out big book of art, Stunningly Savage (see last two photos / Book not included in sale). I think most fans of Rick's work will appreciate this eye-catching oil painting and want it in their collection of fantasy art. No other commercial artist comes close to Rick Melton when it comes to "old school" painting expertise. No air brush or digital techniques here. Now is your chance to own a true original by a true original! SHIPPING TO USA ONLY. (Europe (UK), Canada and Australia with Ebay International Shipping program are the only exceptions.)
