From Rob Morris Feb 1963" "Benj Parke" = Benjamin Parke (1801-1882) = (from the April 30, 1864, Freemasons Magazine and Masonic Mirror) " Benj. Parke, L.L. D., Past Grand High Priest of the Grand H. Royal Arch Chapter, and Past E.E. Grand Commander Knights Templar, of Pennsylvania." ---> Benjamin at times went by the abbreviated "Benj."; He also had a law degree and can be found in literature referred to as "Hon.". FYI: This is a Masonry antique from the Civil War era. It was at one point owned by Benjamin Parke L.L. D., who received it from Rob Morris. The 1862 front cover has the sword and trowel, that is not found on later copyright printings. Combine these with the scarcity of this volume, and it is a very rare find. Notes: I rated this in acceptable condition. There is aging, shelf and usage wear for a book that is 162 years old (see photos). Wear to covers. Also the covers are only being held on by one of the twine threads utilized in the sewn binding; no indication (to me) that it is about to become loose. The main text block has solid binding; no loose pages. The text is clean. No text writing or marks. Please view the photos for examples of content and condition. "After he became a Mason on March 5, 1846, he became convinced that there needed to be a way for female relatives of Masons to share in some measure in the benefits of Freemasonry. While teaching at the Eureka Masonic College ("The Little Red Brick School Building") in Pickens, Mississippi in 1849–1850, he wrote Eastern Star's first ritual, titled The Rosary of the Eastern Star. He organized a "Supreme Constellation" in 1855 to charter Star chapters. In 1866, because of his planned travel abroad, he handed over the organizational authority of Eastern Star to Robert Macoy. He later served as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky in 1858–59. Upon being given a job as professor of the Masonic University, he moved to La Grange, Kentucky in 1860." "Because of his many works on Masonic subjects, on December 17, 1884, he was crowned the "Poet Laureate of Freemasonry", an honor which had not been granted since the death of Robert Burns in 1796."
