Description: 1950s Sommerso (Submerged) MURANO Teal & Amber Ashtray/Bowl ART Glass in the Style of Flavio POLI Murano glass made of amber and teal glass encased in crystal, Sommerso technique. 4" x 4" x 2" Approximately Minimal wear such as fine scratches. No chips Highly decorative item, originally meant to be an ashtray, but now as a jewelry bowl or just to display it in a set with other Murano glass items. The Sommerso technique was originally developed in the 1930s by Antonio Da Ross. Sommerso (Italian for "submerged") is the Murano glass technique of creating two or more layers of contrasting glass without the colors mixing together. It is formed by dipping the tinted glass into different colored molten glass before blowing the glass into the required shape. The outermost layer is often clear. In the 1950s, the Sommerso style became famous throughout the world thanks to the work of Flavio Poli.
