Description: Fantastic High End Estate sale find. Pair of Monumental STUNNING 19th Century Italian Faience Majolica Portrait Chargers Signed by listed artist M. Mondelli and in EXCELLENT antique original condition with wear consistent to age. NO damage issues or signs of abuse; no visible repairs. There is one foot on the back that has a small chip but these ping true and blacklighted clear. Monumental in size and these are a room show stopper at 16 1/2 and 14 1/2 in diameter respectively. The portraits are masterfully hand painted and executed of two of Italy's favorite Sons; Dante and Raffaello, High intaglio relief with hand painted Gold detail. I would imagine these came home after a Grand Tour. The daughter (in her 80's) said her parents bought them at auction at Butterfields or some auction in the 1960's and the number in wax pen on the reverse of one I believe to be a lot number. She remembered them being a point of marital contention because of the cost. But no documentation. These will be bulletproof packaged and insured.
