Description: If you like herb gardening and cooking and you enjoy a nice light summer drink, the Mojito Mint plant is something you will want to include in your garden. The scent of this aromatic herb and its tasteful mild and warm flavor, make it different than your ordinary mint plant. Not just great in the famous Mojito drink, this mint is also a versatile seasoning. You can use it fresh or dried in vegetable and rice dishes, with meats, added to drinks or in your favorite desserts. The Mojito mint is notoriously easy to grow and will return to your garden season after season once established. Place you plant in a partially sunny spot (morning sun is best) with a dappling part shade in the afternoon. It likes a loamy (sandy) soil that drains well and remains uniformly moist during the hottest part of the day. Mojito Mint plants, like other mints, can become quite invasive, sprawling and taking over large areas of garden space if left unchecked. One way to control the sprawl is to give this plant a big pot and then bury the pot in your flowerbed. The pot rim stops the surface trailers from spreading. You'll have decent growth but less risk of its taking over your landscape. If providing consistent moisture will be a problem, mulch the area around the pot in summer and fall. The plants will reach 18-24 inches tall. You can start to harvest leaves once the plant is 8 to 10 inches tall. A good rule of thumb is to limit harvesting to a third of the plant at a time. Wait for at least that much growth before harvesting again. For the best flavor, harvest leaves in the morning before the hot sun hits them. You can keep stems in a glass of water until you're ready to use them. Cut your mojito mint back to ground level during the late fall. In frost-prone areas, cover with at least 3 inches of organic mulch to protect the underground roots from frost.
