Description: With this festive concert the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden under the baton of Fabio Luisi celebrated the moving reopening of the Frauenkirche in Dresden. After the bombing of Dresden on February 13, 1945, the church burnt out and its dome, the "The Stone Bell", collapsed. The church was always very dear to the heart of the Dresdeners and just as its ruins were a constant reminder of the Second World War, the rebuilt church will remain a monument to and a symbol of hope and conciliation. Thus the reopening proved to be a touching event of great solemnity, which was perfectly matched by the Missa solemnis. On this DVD state-of-the-art recording Beethoven’s overwhelming music blends wonderfully with the camera shots of the impressive space. The cast of soloists is excellent. It includes Camilla Nylund and René Pape, who are among the most outstanding singers of the younger generation. An informative bonus film features the reconstruction of the Frauenkirche.
