It moves back and forth to cover the keys..but since it is not attached, it can easily roll back and fall into the organ if you are not careful...this has happened to me...For this reason, the organ will be shipped to you with the key cover wrapped separate and it will be up to you to easily assemble it so it sits loosely on top of the keys to carefully slide back and forth if you want.
