Description: The exact age of this trivet and tile coasters is unknown. They were purchased at an estate sale and never used - now it's time to downsize. The trivet is gray, a pale buttery yellow, and a deep forest green that almost looks black. The coasters are rich chocolate brown, ivory, cotta and rusty orange, with an overlay / flecks of metallic gold. I believe the trivet is mid century modern - 1950s - early 1960s, based on the geometric style and materials. The coasters are not as old and I think these likely date to the 1970's - the fiberglass and rusty brown color palette were very popular then. The trivet is firmly mounted to a masonite base and the tray of the trivet is a dark colored black metal with small ball feet. There is light scuffing on the metal tray, consistent with age. The trivet is about 6 inches square - a very nice size for the kitchen. The coasters are mounted on cork and are in a fiberglass tray/frame. They are standard size, about 3 1/4 inches square. The photos don't really capture the beautiful tile colors and gold flecks - crazy popular in the 1950s - 1970s. The tiles in both the trivet and coasters are glossy with vivid colors. There are no visible cracks, chips or crazing. The gold flakes are still prominent on the coaster tiles. The tiles are all securely mounted - none loose. See photos and description for more details. These pieces would be a great addition to a mid century kitchen/bar collection, and have many years of life left with good care.
