Founded in 1950 in Paris (France) by founding members from 8 countries, namely: Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Turkey, the United States and Yugoslavia, the FMAC is today a Federation of 172 veterans' organizations from 121 countries representing approximately 45 million veterans worldwide.The FMAC has enjoyed consultative status with the United Nations since 1951 and received the title of “Messenger of Peace” in 19871. The main objectives of the FMAC are to defend the spiritual and material interests of veterans and victims of war and their families by all legal means available and to maintain international peace and security through the letter and application of spirit of the Charter of the United Nations and respecting the human rights and fundamental freedoms set out in the International Bill of Human Rights.    To be at the forefront of promoting and defending international peace and security and to be proactive in ensuring the health and well-being of all veterans and victims of war worldwide.    Guide and advise member associations so that they can take the lead in supporting initiatives that promote peace and security and campaign for health and social care initiatives that will improve well-being and independence of their members.    To encourage member associations to work forcefully for international peace and security and to influence and promote a culture of veteran health and well-being in their communities.    Guide and inspire members to be impartial, sensitive, engaged, responsible, collaborative, resourceful and to act with respect, dignity, compassion and integrity.OrganizationThe FMAC is made up of the following permanent elements: a general assembly, an executive council, regional standing committees, a standing women's committee and a financial committee. It is managed by its executive board composed of the president, the vice-president, 4 vice-presidents, the general secretary and the general treasurer.
