Description: Van Guard Studios painting Numbered on the back 312 e and one of the studio artists wrote "Lee Renolds Burr" " Vanguard Studio 1967 312 e Van Guard". They misspelled his last name. Not sure if on purpose or a mistake. Also, Van Guard Studios Inc 1967 is stamped three times on the back. Lee Reynolds Burr started Van Guard Studios with his brother Stuart Burr in 1964, Beverly Hills, CA. He had an art degree and traveled to Europe buying fine art and became friendly with Salvador Dali. He made fine art available to the masses by hiring hand picked artists who created many paintings to hang above sofas-"Sofa Art" generally sold to interior designers and furniture stores across the country. I have not found this particular painting anywhere for sale online but there are other Spanish Conquistador paintings by Vanguard Studios which may be from a certain "Conquistador line". With this one being numbered it could be the only one that exist as not all of the Vanguard paintings are numbered. Mid Century Modern, MCM
