Description: MCGUFFEY’S THIRD ECLECTIC READER REVISED EDITION VANANTWERP BRAGG & COMPANY, 1879. This auction is for a 208-page (7 ½” high x 5” wide x ¾” thick) hardback book entitled, “McGuffey’s Third Eclectic Reader Revised Edition,” produced by Van Antwerp, Bragg & Co., of Cincinnati and New York as part of the Eclectic Educational Series. The long-contained popularity of McGuffey’s Readers is sufficient evidence of the positive merits of the books. The aim of this revision has been to preserve unimpaired the distinctive features of the series, and at the same time to present the matter in a new dress, with new type, new illustrations, and with a considerable amount of new matter. Spelling exercises are in the first half of the book and later, definitions are introduced. The pencil inscription in the front: “Dec. 27, 1892. Lewis Ganger Shelby Co. O.” The book has text, illustrations, etc., see the Table of Contents for a list of stories. It is in good condition for its age, but has toning a bit of spotting, wear, etc. The binding is firm.
