Description: Using the tale within a tale format, Maya Veerum affords the reader a trip through the interior of our world and our consciousness. We join Sandakumaran, the Prince of Peace - beginning with his chat with his cousin about looking for a wife ("when marriage begins, satan begins" - one of my favorite quotes) and an explanation of how satan rules the world through "7 and 1/2". Sandakumaran helps everyone he meets, completely setting his own life aside. He also encounters the Pulahan Brothers who represent Russia and China - and we follow these brothers in their attempt to rule the world. There is the tale of the shark and the whale -which reminds me of Israel and Palestine, and the tale of the city of Sokku - city of mayic lures and enchantments ruled by the "money pay demon". Plus a beautiful glen with a waterfall where the Sufi master lives and people swing on swings of cinnamon stones and drink from rivers of honey and milk. and another region where fairies frolic ruled by the beautiful Ananda Ruby. She falls in love with Sandakumarn and for his sake agrees to at least look at the mortal man she abandoned and who is pining away with love for her clinging to the rock of mystery. We can put our own interpretations on the stories and they only get deeper the more we read it!
