Item measures about 9 X 12 inches, opens to 12 X 18 inches. In very good to a shade off fine condition, some ever so slight age toning to the spine of the menu cover - hardly notable. An ever so slight bump to the upper left, top corner. No previous owner marks, or stains noted. Menu cover art was part of a promotional advertisement by the Matson Lines along with Elizabeth Arden (perfume) and P. Lorillard and Co. cigarettes in sponsoring the "Annual Women's Auxiliary AMA Association Luncheon, Pacific Panorama," theme, at the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco - Wednesday, June 25, 1958, almost 63 years ago. A rather rare Matson Line promotional item. Louis Macouillard (1913-1987) Born: San Francisco, California. He studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts (Oakland), Art Students League (New York). Louis Macouillard’s paintings from the 1930s through the 1950s depict local cityscape scenes of the Bay Area. He exhibited them with the Thirteen Watercolorists group at local art galleries and in annual museum shows. During World War II, he was stationed in the South Pacific and produced many watercolors, some of which appeared in Life magazine. Macouillard also designed two postage stamps, one of them being the commemorative 6 cent US postage stamp of Daniel Boone, issued in September 1968. After the war, he continued to paint representational transparent watercolor paintings of cityscape scenes and landscape subjects in the Sonoma Country area. His work is featured in the permanent collection at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and the and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. One of his etchings is featured in a scrapbook collage by artist Xavier Martinez and is part of the permanent collection at the the Oakland Museum of California.
