Description: Thank you for looking. Please visit my other listings of contemporary and antique Japanese art. Master Kichesuke Agatsuma 我妻吉助 (1919-2004) shingata kokeshi. 1970. Signed. Agatsuma-san belonged to the Togatta School of dento (traditional) kokeshi. However, he is also known for his experimentation outside of the Togatta tradition. This specific work is an example of such experimentation. While a departure from the established canon, it is clearly inspired by traditional kokeshi. Such neo-traditional kokeshi styles are often referred to as Shingata kokeshi - indicating that the new style is an off-spring from one of the twelve canonical schools. The large size - 12 inches, 542 g - will make this kokeshi a visible accent in your home. K146
