Description: Antique Arts and Crafts Movement chromolithograph triptych, titled "Bye Baby Bunting" and produced circa 1910-1920 by Mary Louise Spoor (1887-1985). This triptych features 3 charming illustration panels based on the nursery rhyme 'Bye Baby Bunting'. Nicely framed print showcases Mary Louise Spoor's Arts and Crafts Movement figurative style that was inspired by and incorporates many elements of Japonism and Ukiyo-e woodblock printing. There is also an Art Nouveau feel to the design. Japonism was very popular in the late 19th and early 20th century and Spoor was influenced by other successful female artists like Helen Hyde and Georgia O'Keefe. This print is a period original and is in excellent condition. It has a museum quality frame of dark pine or oak that has been painted black. The dimensions are approximately 59" in length and 24.5" in height. Each display window cut into the mat material measures 14"x14". Non-glare glass This rare piece of illustration art is perfect for those who appreciate the history of women artists in the early 20th century and the artistry of antique lithograph illustrations. Published in Chicago by C.H. Congdon, Spoor was educated at the Art Institute of Chicago and was considered a gifted and outstanding student, and later became a very successful artist. She had a relatively short professional life as an artist/illustrator, that lasted for only 6 years, although her work lives on and has been loved by thousands. These triptychs were originally produced to be hung in schools or libraries, and as a consequence, many were discarded or destroyed.
