Description: Here is one of those harder to find 8 wheel 6 inch tin military train cars that Marx produced for a short while just prior to our entry into WWII. This is the 2561MD DUMMY searchlight car! To the best of my knowledge, Marx never made a LIGHTED military searchlight car in 8 wheel (although they DID make a quite rare RED metal searchlight car in 8 wheel). This is a really nice, presentable example of this desirable car. However, there are TWO ISSUES that I want to make you aware of. First, the "mirror" lens (which was just a piece of plated metal) on THIS car is a handmade one, which looks like it was hand cut (but it looks virtually identical to the "real thing" when the metal ring is installed around it). Second, that metal ring that holds the tinned disc in place is also a reproduction part which was painted olive drab to match (not a bad match, but not perfect). ON the shelf, only the most observant person would even notice! Other than that, all else on this car does appear to be original and complete. The car is on 8 stamped steel wheels on metal axles, and has tab and slot style couplers on both ends. All ready to add to your military consist or your collection!
