I recently got an insane collection of historical memorabilia from an 85-year-old social sciences teacher. He’s a true scholar, a walking encyclopedia of political, social, and sports historical facts. There are piles and piles of sports pieces — he began attending Chicago Cubs games in the 50s and since then has been to literally 1000s of games! Signed baseball cards dating back to the 30’s up to recent stuff like Michael Jordan’s autograph. Also presidential stuff, war stuff — I’ve never seen anything like it. Many of the signatures he obtained in person, and thus never felt the need to have anything authenticated. Now I have a mountain of these items, and it would cost a bazillion dollars to get all the certificates, get all the baseball cards graded, etc. So, we’re just doing it “as is” and you can pay the crazy money to have someone who wasn’t there tell you what I already know.
