Description: Condition: Like New. Book looks unread. There is a dedication to previous owner by their relatives from 1988 on the last page of the book in the Notes section - no other writing. The author, Isabella M. White, has autographed the tittle page. Paperback front cover has very minimal shelf wear around some of the edges. The back cover has a dot sized stain on the middle right, near the spine. The spine has two similar dot sized marks. The inner covers are clean but you can see the binding glue near the spine if you pull the cover out, this relates to the tight binding of the paperback - no loose pages or cover. Around two pages have what appears to be a very light thumbprint mark on the margins (such as the table of contents page). No tears, stains, creases, or color fading on the pages. See photos for item condition. Reviews from back cover: "The Scottish Bakehouse Cook Book is laced with tips on how to properly select meats, how to tell the difference between edible and non edible fish and much, much more. There are over 400 traditional recipes from Scotland and specialties from The Scottish Bakehouse on Martha's Vineyard. A unique cookbook on all counts! OLD SAYBROOK PICTORIAL A cookbook for romantics... it spells Thanksgiving and berries and country, leaf-collecting walks and fireplaces... Mrs. Isabella Maxwell White's Scottish Bakehouse is an Islander's institution for home-baked scones, raisin-filled Irish bread, apple brown betty, pumpkin pie, and for Thanksgiving roast turkey, stuffing, fruit cakes... shall we go on! The cookbook is filled with her recipes for the likes of the above and more... VOGUE MAGAZINE Reading The Scottish Bakehouse Cook Book is really not like reading a cookbook at all... for there is so much else to enjoy besides the many intriguing and attractive recipes. Every section is prefaced by reminiscences of life in the Scottish countryside. A graphic description of pig killing day; hints on how to catch a brook trout (by hand!); the delicious ritual of a Scottish high tea; buying lambs in the village market place etc. Pictures abound, scattered charmingly throughout, many in color. After reading the book one must employ great restraint not to rush out to Mrs. White's little bakeshop for some of her now famous breads and goodies. THE GRAPEVINE A truly delightful cookbook - full of good Scottish wit and common sense! Perfect for the young and the young at heart. Will make a cherished wedding present. HELEN GARDNER Mrs. White's Scottish brogue is enough to assure you that her shortbread is the real thing - and her steak and kidney pies and sausage rolls are authentic Scottish treats too made from recipes brought over from the Old Country. And this goes for the more than 400 recipes collected in The Scottish Bakehouse Cook Book. SUMMER GUIDE"
