I can mix and match pieces for the range and throw them in a pelican case or converted toolbox. So long as they aren't crushed together, the nylon offers plenty of protection. My blued, parkerized, cerocote, and duracoat finishes are no worse for wear after storage and repeated range trips. These have worked well for me and they may for you as well.
