Marklin 89003 Z Gauge Display

Description: Up for auction is Marklin 89003 mini-club display (2003-2006) made of anodized aluminum, glass and acrylic. This was a hard to find item when it was released, I purchased as many as I found from multiple dealers 20 years ago. It was an expensive item retailing for 399.99, most dealers I found stocked just one. I purchased 8 of these, and I like them due to their compact size and clear display, but as delivered they don't hold much and the length is too short to display long train sets. The first part of the display dilemma for me was to come up with a modification that included making risers for each of the 5 shelves thus tripling the display capacity. I use my displays for my SMI's, Museum, and Christmas editions which works out great for me. The original display includes 5 heavy polished glass shelves, acrylic spacers, Marklin logo, hardware for hanging on wall, and outer case. I do not recommend this display for anyone without a solid wood wall because the display is small but heavy and our Marklin collections run into the thousands: included hardware just does not cut it for me. Please think twice before purchasing this item. The modification which is included with the case are 5 PVC risers which are archival (mold and moisture resistant) and will not harm your trains, each has been tested for proper fit and carefully made by me. This one I am selling is the first one I have seen in at least 15 years, but it was damaged in shipping (water got into the shipping box and reached Marklin box only): water damage to outer carton as can be seen in photos. Normally the boxes were scuffed when purchased new, this one is scuffed up more than normal plus damaged from being dropped off in the rain near our garden gate by Fedex or UPS: all contents of the box are complete and perfect condition. All packaging for this item is correct when it left Germany (never assembled) thus I am listing it in new condition with significantly damaged box. Assembly of the display is straight forward: start with placing one glass shelf in base of display followed by attaching acrylic spacers either side of case with attached double stick tape. Might consider wiping interior sides of case with acetone before attaching spacers which I did. Glass door can either slide out right or left due to preference.
