Description: Manchukuo – Puyi’s first visit to Japan, Sc 71-73 (1935) On April 2, 1935, Puyi (now emperor Kangde) made his first visit to Japan on the invitation of Emperor Hirohito. These three stamps (of a set of four) were issued the same day. They show the symbols of Japan and Manchukuo: mount Fujiyama for the first stamp and the phoenix for the two others. History The Japanese military authority of Manchukuo decided that it was time for Puyi to visit Emperor Hirohito to thank him for sending his brother, Prince Chichibu, to his enthronement and to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the Manchu and Japanese peoples. Puyi's journey was an impressive spectacle: the Hie Maru ocean liner coming to pick him up with an escort of warships and, upon arrival, a squadron of 100 planes flying over the liner.CONDITION: Mint, light hinge traces (MLH).Handling & shipping fees are (in CA $): Canada 2 $; USA 2.50 $; other countries 3.50 $.
