Description: this is a wonderful vintage oil painting which depicts an antique Maine cape type farmhouse with its center original cape section all attached to its large important working barn - the farmhouse was located on a dirt road named Lake Rd. in Brownington Center, Vermont - Brownington Center, VT is far north in Vermont, not far from the U.S. / Canada border - the farmhouse was called "the Powers House" by the local residents clearly suggesting the name of the original family that built & lived in the house - the painting was created by an unknown artist named Eugenia Kellar of Lake Rd., Newport, VT who was a very talented artist who painted this house, the dirt road, & the trees in a very "realistic" style - she had almost the skilled hand of an architect in re-creating this antique house - (there is pencil writing on the paper that covers the reverse of the painting which allows us this information) - the artist used a wonderful soft & muted palette of subdued brown, gray, & off-white colors to portray this antique 3-section home (c.1830's ?) it is the quintessential New England farmhouse which began life as a small & simple cape style with what is now its center section - as the farm family grew with more children, the parents found it necessary to expand their small cape into a much larger house, thus, they built the larger front section of the house & attached it to the original small cape section - the large working barn remained attached to the old cape section thus allowing the family members to go from the newer front section, through the center section & into the barn without ever leaving the house - this became an important necessity during the long cold & snowy winters - the painting itself measures a generous 24" x 18" sight size, & is in excellent vintage (1980's) condition - its colors remain very bright & vivid & make the entire picture very life-like - the painting is greatly enhanced by its bold oak frame which is in excellent condition & measures 28" x 22" - it has been stained a mid-dark color which goes very well with the subject matter in the painting - the frame is probably the original frame for this painting -painting can be picked up at my home in Swanzey, NH to save on shipping cost -
