Magnificent Antique Victorian VELVET PORTIERE Drape Heavy Deep Pile Muted colors

Description: A Magnificent antique Victorian Era portiere drape, lush and quite heavy, to keep out the cold and drafts in a fine San Francisco estate built in the 1880s. Thick dense velvet pile has a lovely luster and changes color depending on how it lays as the light plays over the fabric. Lined in a handsome red brocade fabric. Aesthetic to Art Nouveau floral pattern with an attractive border. The colors are gorgeous, hard for me to define, and have aged a bit over the years to a warm burnished muted pinks, a variety of soft tans shades, really a stunning color scheme that is romantic and warm. There is a sort of rod pocket (or hem) on one end, where the last 4" of the portiere have been folded over and stitched closed. This measures 77 1/2" long (plus the 4" turned under) and is 50" wide. Not sure if this is silk but is feels like a silk velvet, maybe is a fine quality dense cotton velvet with a good luster and glow. Victorian portieres are hard to come by today, and this one is exceedingly beautiful and in overall very good shape. Hang this in your home, or use it as a table cover or piano cover. This has been well stored away in a fine estate, covered in a temperature controlled home. Please read the condition statement above.
