Description: This is one of the rarest Lyon & Healy parlor guitars. Masterfully crafted from exquisite book matched flamed maple back and sides, an old growth Adirondack red spruce top, Honduran mahogany neck and African ebony headstock overlay, fretboard and bridge. It is an amalgamation of the world’s finest and most sought after tone woods from a bygone era. This guitar is heavily adorned with intricate marquetry in the purfling and rosette as well as the back center strip and the fret board is beautifully inlayed with hand scrimshawed mother of pearl position markers. The guitar has just been professionally setup lightly cleaned and restrung with Thomastik-Infeld AC110 .010-.041" light tension strings. This guitar has been expertly repaired where necessary with careful attention given to preserving originality while improving playability. The neck is vey straight, action low and there is plenty of room for future adjustments at the bridge. All parts and components are original to the guitar, aside from the bridge pins and saddle which are high quality hand fitted bone. The original tuners and hardware are in place, function well and hold pitch as they should. A neck reset has restored the playability giving the proper action height and neck angle. Additionally a small ebony shim was added under the fretboard tongue to allow excellent playability across this guitars entire scale length. It has been professionally re-fretted with Stewart McDonald #147 fret wire. The original factory installed frets are included with the sale of this instrument. There has been some repair to the back lower bout, treble side, as well the area near the end pin. The original celluloid binding has been repaired in the areas where is cracked or come unglued. These repairs are observable in the pictures, and specifically featured in pictures #15, 19 & 21. The repairs are rock solid, completely stable and will not reopen. The guitar has honest playing wear, scratches dents and dings. All this is aesthetic however. The guitar in its fully restored condition is as structurally sound and playable (if not more so) as the day it was made. Over a century of joy filled playing has allowed this guitar’s tone woods to achieve their true potential. This parlor guitar is incrediby loud for its size. It gives a vibrant response to the player and boasts long lasting sustain. This guitar has exceptional balance, bright crisp highs and plenty of bass. The low, buzz free action, short 24.75" scale an V style neck combine for an extremely comfortable playing experience. Truly a pleasure to play and hear, this guitar possesses a depth and spectrum of tone that is irreplaceable without the worlds most beautiful and sought after tone woods crafted into an instrument by the most skilled artisans of the last century, then given a century to age to perfection.
