Description: Thanks for taking a look at my ancient Lydia lion 1/12 stater coin. This coin was minted between 610 BC - 546 BC in Lydia, Asia Minor (modern day Turkey), making it among the oldest coins in existence. The obverse of this coin has the famous lion among other countermarks. These countermarks were there to show ownership and we can see a few around the coin. The reverse of the coin has an incuse punch from the mint which verifies the coin is throughly made of electrum (a gold/silver alloy found naturally in the area, but then refined further by Lydian people). The value of this coin in ancient times was higher than anyone would use on a daily basis. These would be used for major purchases only. This is the oldest coin I’ve owned, and I would like someone else to enjoy it as much as I have. Please message me with any questions.
