Description: Luck Of The Irish By Ruth Adams Knight 1951 Junior Literary Guild, Doubleday Vtg Kirkus' Review For young people who weary of reading about precocious canines and their exploits but who still like dogs as such, this yarn about a boy and his Irish setter which includes some information about kennel management and handling dogs may be the ticket. Steve Sullivan, Jr., whose father was reported lost in a plane crash in the wilds of Venezuela, gives up college, and attempting to keep his father's farm property producing, introduces boarding kennels as a sideline, as well as training his Irish setter, Lady, and her kennel mate, Rex, for show. With the help of an old dog man, Angus Acorn, the kennel begins to catch on, but the climax of the story comes when Steve tracks down his father in Venezuela, with the help of Lady. The Venezuela episode is not too convincing, but the kennel goings-on are absorbing.
