Description: Maker: This exquisite hand painted antique chocolate pot by MZ Austria was purchased at an estate sale full of high-end porcelain and crystal. Moritz Zdekauer began business in 1884, producing fine quality porcelain under the name MZ Austria until the company was taken over by the German firm Hutschenreuther in 1909. Hutschenreuther renamed the company the Altrohlau Porcelain Factory and marked its products “MZ Altrohlau”. Czechoslovakia nationalized the company after World War 2. Marks and age: The green MZ Austria mark on the bottom was in use between 1884 and 1909. The impressed number 1000 and the hand painted number 334 11 - probably the pattern number - also appear. Design: The gracefully shaped chocolate pot features swags of tiny pink roses on gold bands at the top and bottom. An ornately sculpted handle adds to its impact. Condition: It's in excellent overall condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, repairs or crazing. There is light wear throughout, including the gold accents, and several tiny misplaced spots of paint under the glaze - examples are shown in the photos with the red arrows. The gold bands have darkened a bit. Size: The chocolate pot is 8 5/8 inches tall at the tip of the spout and 3 5/8 inches wide at the opening. Together the 2 pieces weigh 1 pound 4 ounces. Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
