Description: In very good condition. This is a Top-Quality CD of 345 train order images from the Louisiana & Arkansas Railroad, a subsidiary of Kansas City Southern Lines. This Railroad maintained a separate identity up into the 1990's, when it was finally merged out of existence. There is one station list showing all locations represented, in three different categories. These will be explained below. This CD covers the entire L&A Texas Subdivision from Shreveport, Louisiana to Dallas, Texas. The station list shows all locations and the number of images included from that location. Also included are 98 employee timetable pages that cover all of this territory, and the KCS Railway as well, so the reader can see where each location was, with respect to the others. This was a very strategic piece of Railroad, and was train-order territory up until the 1980's, when train orders disappeared altogether. The timetables are classified as follows:L&A System #42 4-10-1960 20 pages;L&A System #44 1-5-1964 20 pages;KCS Northern Division #39 6-22-1947 20 pages;KCS Southern Division #39 6-22-1947 16 pages;KCS-Gulf Coast Lines #78 8-15-1948 4 pages: andATSF Northern Division #8 8-4-1968 16 pages, plus 2 separate pages for the Santa Fe line from Dallas to Farmersville, which the L&A ran over eastbound to get to Shreveport. Just for good extra reading, I included the entire Santa Fe timetable for the Northern Division. One note on Santa Fe timetable No. 8: The East Dallas location became known as Dallas with the effective date of this timetable. This is because there was no longer any need to copy train orders at the Dallas Union Depot, as the Santa Fe pulled the last passenger train in and out of there, again with the effective date of this timetable. The KCS timetables were included just so the reader could get a better understanding of the entire operations on the entire KCS railway system. Each timetable has its own folder for easy reference. There are 248 L&A orders from the Texas Subdivision itself. This track ran from Shreveport to Farmersville, Texas, where they got on the Santa Fe rails to run from Farmersville to Dallas. There are 76 Santa Fe orders from three different locations included here. Also included are 21 L&A orders from various other locations, all copied on the actual L&A forms. These forms disappeared in the late 1940's, and from then on, they used KCS forms without any reference to the L&A. There was a short period of time where they used KCS-L&A joint forms, but these didn't last very long. A few orders on these joint forms are included here. These extra L&A orders are coded with an X in the dialog box, to keep them all separate. Finally, there are 76 Santa Fe orders included also, coded with a Z in the dialog box, again to keep them all together. This entire piece of track was 260.9 miles long, 223.1 miles on the L&A itself, and 37.8 miles on the Santa Fe from Farmersville to East Dallas. There are 20 different locations represented here, with at least one train order image from each location. Ages of the orders range from 1909 until 1984. This entire line was train-order territory. The 12 pictures shown are just a sampling of the quantity and variety of locations and operations unique to this very strategic piece of Railroad.A concerted effort has been made, to give the best (some enhanced) images possible. There is a grand total of 349 images included. The train orders and clearance cards in this CD show many engine numbers (a few steam), operators' names, track conditions, operating procedures, and all kinds of meets and flag orders, all consistent with train-order operation. This is some of the best Railroad reading anywhere.
