Lord Frederic Leighton Prominent 19th Century British Painter Autograph Letter

Description: Lord Frederick Leighton [1830 1896] was a prominent 19th century artist known for his paintings of historical, mythological and religious subjects. In 1855 he submitted his first painting to the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition called, Cimabue's Celebrated Madonna, which was purchased by Queen Victoria and is still part of the Royal Collection. Leighton also produced sculptures, his sculpture, An Athlete Wrestling with a Python was heralded as the beginning of the ''New Sculpture'' movement. In 1878, he was elected President of the Royal Academy, cementing his position at the center of London's art world and was also knighted in. Listed for auction is a [ALS] autograph letter signed by Lord Frederick Leighton. The letter is difficult to decipher, the last few lines are as follows, ''for the pictures are in England, I will be distributing ?'' and is signed ''yours faithfully Frederick Leighton'' in dip pen. The letter measures approximately 4.00 x 5.25 inches, affixed to a card and is in very good condition. The letter is authentic and is a nice example of this noted English artist.
