Many longtime fans of the band feel that their earliest albums, from 1979's LIFE IN A DAY through 1981's double SONS AND FASCINATION/SISTER FEELINGS CALL, are the Scottish group's best work, but other than a brief snippet of "Love Song" from 1980's EMPIRES AND DANCE in a medley, Jim Kerr and company ignore their early years entirely.All of these 14 lengthy tracks come from the band's more commercially successful period, covering 1982's NEW GOLD DREAM, 1984's SPARKLE IN THE RAIN and 1985's ONCE UPON A TIME, plus of course the hit single "Don't You (Forget About Me)." The performances are superb, but reworkings of earlier gems like "I Travel" would have been fascinating.
