Description: ORIGINAL ARTWORK Signed in Pencil: Maud EdeGifted by Frederick Mortimer Clapp Limited Edition Etching# 20 of 20 Total. Titled: "San Georgio, Venice" Period Framed ca. 1900 The artist is listed and signed this work in pencil just below the etching. Another of this limited etching run is found within the National Galleries of Scotland. Not very often you can pick up a museum piece for under $2,000 U.S.D. Maud Ede was an artist from Florence who is known for her etchings on paper. Most of her known work comprises of etchings of boat and canal scenes in Venice which appear to be influenced by artist James Abbott McNeill Whistler, and early vedutisti; painters who created large scale prints or paintings of cityscapes and vistas. Ede moved to New York when she married Frederick Mortimer Clapp, a poet and art historian who was the first director of the Frick collection in Manhattan, NY. "Clapp" personalized this etching when he wrote that this was a gift from him. {To who he didn't write}. I preserved that part of the original backing and affixed it to the acid proof backing I installed after cleaning the frame and glass. See pictures to see the original backing. Her artistic connections extend to her nephew Jim Ede who founded Kettleās Yard gallery in Cambridge, and who donated works by his aunt to the National Galleries of Scotland. Jim Ede presented a like etching from this 20 run total to the Gallery in 1977. Framed artwork measures approx. 13" wide x 11" tall. The artwork itself measures approx. 7" wide x 6" tall. Nothing for the buyer to do but hang on wall. SEE MY EBAY STORE FOR 500+ UNIQUE ITEMS & MORE ARTWORK. SHIPPING IS USPS FOR U.S. & EBAY FOR INTERNATIONAL. SHIPPING FEES ARE VIA EBAY CALCULATOR.
