Paper size:20 3/4 X 25 1/4 in. Richard Florsheim was born in 1916 in Chicago where he studied at the University of Chicago before traveling through Europe and the Middle East. He has had more than sixty one-person exhibitions since 1935 and his work can be found in the Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress and the Metropolitan Museum. In 1965 Florsheim was appointed to the State Art Council by the Governor of Illinois. This color lithograph print is part of Florsheim's Illuminations series, a portfolio of twelve lithographs. The piece depicts a vast sky filled with dark, menacing clouds lit by the flash of lightning. The silhouette of a city skyline is huddled at the bottom of the piece, black smoke rises up to mix with the clouds above.
