This set is over 200 YEARS OLD! These are the original leather bindings from over two centuries ago. These are the original gilt-crested bindings. Bound in polished morocco leather bindings. Condition: In exceptional condition, especially considering that this set is 200 years old and still bound in the original leather bindings from 1818. Full leather bindings are still supple. There is general wear and abrasion to the bindings, and to the spines as is visible in the pictures. All of the hinges are strongly attached. Hinges all strongly attached, despite some starting, due to the underlying binding cords on these early bindings. There is some starting, some more than others, some only rubbed, some cracked and firmly by cords, all strongly attached. Minor abrasion chips to some extremities as shown in the pictures, with some abrasion loss, as shown. Minor dealer note in pencil else no writing or previous signs of ownership. Original tissue and frontisplate present. These are the original bindings from over two centuries ago. Gilt embossed framed crest on both covers, both front and rear, of each book. Printed on the highest quality rag paper, that is exceptionally well-preserved. Set appears unread. Set appears to have aged on a shelf for 200 years with some aging and wear to the bindings. Minor foxing upfront, otherwise appear to be free of any internally foxing. Rag paper. Well laid out, thick ink, old font, publisher's marginal notes. Illustrated with fold outs and the frontisplate is intact in volume one. This set requires 13 inches of shelf space. These are large books, measuring 8.5 inches tall.
