Description: LARGE PAIR OF SCONCES LOUIS XVI STYLE EARLY 1900 ~ BRONZE - JOLLET COLIN PARIS ~ Superb pair of large sconces 2-light Louis XVI style, early 1900. Manufacturing bronze by Maison Colin, a very prestigious foundry founded in Paris in 1843 and located at 29 rue Sévigné. Renowned for its high-quality cast pieces, it was exhibited at various universal exhibitions, including the Chicago World's Fair of 1893 and the Paris World's Fair of 1900, where it received a gold medal. It produced the greatest masters of French sculpture, such as A.E. Carrier-Belleuse (The Zouave), J. Pradier (The Three Graces, Venus consoling Love) or J.B. Carpeaux from 1875 (The Child with the Horn), and the Parisian goldsmith Christofle. It marked its bronzes with the mention “E. Colin & Cie” from 1882 to 1898. The brand evolved to become “M. Colin & Cie” from 1898 to 1906, then “Ancienne Maison Colin, Jollet & Cie” from 1906 to 1923. At the end of the 19th century, Colin was among the greatest bronze makers alongside Barbedienne, Susse and Siot-Decauville. The founder's stamp is affixed to the side of the sconces (see last photo). Original gilding in perfect condition with a lovely patina of time. The wall part is openworked with acanthus leaves, pearls and windings. The light arms are decorated with acanthus leaves, windings and a zoomorphic animal head. The candle holders are finely chiseled with foliage. They're electrified and tested, new wires (for E14 bulb). Cardboard candles, new. Careful packaging ensured (double protection).
