Description: LA PROVENCE (1905) Built by Chantiers & Ateliers de la St. Navaire for the French Line as a 13,753 GT ship with dimensions of 602'x64'. Twin-screw, 21.5 knots, triple expansion engines, two masts and two funnels. Launched March 21, 1905 with passenger accommodations for 422 first, 132 second and 800 third class. Maiden voyage was from Havre-New York on April 21, 1906. Converted to armed merchant cruiser and renamed PROVENCE II in 1914. Torpedoed and sunk by submarine in Mediterranean on Feb. 26, 1916.
