Although there are other white woods such as white cedar and fir available, when considering durability and water resistance, there is no other material that can compare to Kiso Sawara. Even within a single straw log, there are two main types: the immature part, called "shirota" (white log), and the mature part, called "akami" (red log). The white logs are soft, easily moldy, and of low value. There are many products on the market that contain the white portion, but this product is made from carefully selected lean portions. Craftsman Planer Finishing There are two types of final surface finishes for woodworking: planer finishing and paper finishing using sandpaper. As the mechanization of barrel making has progressed, most products are now paper-finished, but we insist on planing the inside of this product. The wood's original characteristics are utilized and its durability and water resistance are not impaired by the kanna finish. The wood is also used for the pillars of many historical buildings, and it is believed that the wood will remain unchanged for hundreds of years.
