Description: This is a wonderful royal presentation cigarette case given by King Edward VII of Great Britain as a Christmas gift in 1907. The case has a yellow enamel bridge table of points on the cover and the interior is engraved with, “From / Edward R / Xmas 1907” with the engraved signature of King Edward VII. The case is marked twice on the interior with the Austrian 900 standard mark for Vienna, and “G.A.S.” for Georg Adam Scheid. The case is in the original fitted leather presentation box with a gilt imperial crown. King Edward VII made a state visit to Austria in June-August 1907 and undoubtedly ordered the case at that time. After his involvement in the royal baccarat scandal, also known as the Tranby Croft affair, in September 1890, Edward gave up baccarat and took up bridge. He became an enthusiastic bridge player, a game he shared with Mrs. Alice Frederica Keppel, his mistress. The case measures 3 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches and weighs 145.6 grams. The original fitted leather presentation case is in very good condition with minor leather loss at the clasp. Otherwise, the leather case has only minor surface wear. The cigarette case itself is in fine condition with no enamel damage or repair. Domestic insured Priority Mail $25.00. Please contact for international shipping costs
