Description: It’s said that Coco Chanel loved the sautoir — not surprising, as this versatile style of jewelry makes a statement whether worn wrapped around the neck as a choker, double stranded for a traditional opera length, dramatically draped as a rope down the front or the back, or even as used creatively as a belt. This particular vintage sautoir/necklace was made in the 1980s-1990s and is signed Kenneth Jay Lane for Avon. It is crafted of faux lapis blue beads punctuated with small fluted gold tone metal spheres. It features a dramatic, gold tone (possibly gold plated) double ram’s head clasp that doubles as a pendant. 16 small crystals highlight the rams to create sparkling green eyes and glittering clear colored horns. The piece measures about 28” when worn as an opera length, double strand necklace with the clasp at the back or on the side. When worn as a long rope with the ram’s heads as a pendant, it measures 62”. It can also be worn triple stranded/as a choker. The double ram’s head clasp measures about 2 1/4”, is secured with a snap closure, and is marked “KJL for AVON” on the underside. This necklace is in excellent vintage condition. The color of the blue beads is strong with no fading. The gold plating is beautifully intact with virtually no loss. All 16 mini crystals are in place on the clasp, which is fully functional and secure. The JKL maker’s mark is crisp and clear.
