Description: Very rare, exquisitely crafted, Rosewood flute made by J.M. Burger in Starsbourg (Strassburg) who operated between 1873-1904. Burger was successor to Jean Chretien Roth, who died in October 1881. Conical bore, rosewood, large holes with ring keys, it is essentially a remake of Theobald Boehm’s 1832 conical flute. Engraved in the wood in upper body joint near the tenon is JM Burger, Strassburg I. e., DRGM. DRGM is the abbreviation for Deutsches Reich Gebrauchs Muster, used to indicate a registered design or patent. Has a cracked, but sealed headjoint, small sealed crack in foot joint, and is missing from the back of the upper joint a medallion mark consisting of a cherub holding a trumpet below a five pointed star. The filled tracks where the mark was fastened are visible. The flute plays very well, with a clear, warm and beautiful tone. Head joint is 9 3/8”. Main body joint 13 3/4” and foot joint 5”. Will ship with modern flute case shown in pics.
